By staying at Residenza Giotto you will find yourselves in the heart of the historic center of Florence. During the day you can stroll the city streets letting yourselves be caught up in the atmosphere full of history and culture. You will find narrow side streets that open onto the beautiful squares like Santa Croce with its famous Church, housing tombs of many distinguished people; Piazza del Duomo with the Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral, Giotto's bell tower and the Baptistery; Piazza della Signoria with the Old Palace (now the town hall), the fountain renamed "Biancone" by locals and the lovely Lanzi Loggia with its beautiful statues. Crossing the Arno river on the Old Bridge, renowned for it's gold and jewellry shops, you come to the Pitti Palace and closeby the old residential area of San Frediano well known for both its traditional and new artisan workshops.
If instead the weather is not conducive to strolling outside, you can visit the museums and galleries which house some of the most important artistic masterpieces of the world. For example the Uffizi gallery or the Accademy gallery as well as many other museums and palaces with shows and exhibitions by big international artists both from the past and the present.
And then when you have had enough culture you can be distracted by a little shopping in streets like Via Roma, Via Tornabuoni, Via Calzaiuoli and Via della Vigna Nuova, where you will find the most important of the Italian fashion designer names.
On your return home to the Residenza you can comfortably relax in your room, or on the terrace admiring the view of the Cathedral perhaps sipping a glass of wine or simply a cup of tea or cappuccino. In the evening you will be embarrassed by the choice of places to dine, from the many typical "trattorie", local wine bars which serve meals, or even a restaurant with international cuisine.
